Kitaoi Kominka
Kinokawa City, Wakayama Pref.
Kinokawa City, true to its name, lies along the Kinokawa River—one of Wakayama Prefecture’s major rivers flowing from the Kii Mountains. Set within a broad, open valley between the Izumi and Kii ranges, the area enjoys expansive plains and a strong agricultural heritage. Known today as a “Fruit Kingdom,” it is famous for mandarin oranges and peaches. Located on the edge of a village, this traditional kominka features striking interior elements such as massive beams, solid wooden doors, and a rare irori hearth, and commands sweeping views over surrounding rice fields. Wakayama City is just over 30 minutes away by car or public transport, and Kansai International Airport is similarly accessible via expressway.
