Inami Machiya
Nanto City, Toyama Pref.
This is a traditional machiya built in 1895 by a local kimono dealer that had over 200 years of history. This machiya is located in the center of Inami town that is well-known for the skilled wood carvers and sculptors. There are about 120 wood carving workshops spread out throughout the town with 300 wood carvers. While the facade of the shopfront is kept in its original state, most rooms inside the house have been modernized throughout the years. With proper renovation, this historical machiya can be changed to a Ryokan, guest house, restaurant, and a shop or office.
