Muya Machiya
Naruto City, Tokushima Pref.
The Naruto Straits, where large whirlpools appear on the surface of the sea, is famous as one of the world's three major tidal currents. Muya, located on the southern shore of the strait, has prospered since ancient times as a port town at the entrance to Shikoku Island. In the past, Shikoku specialties such as salt, indigo, and lumber were shipped from Muya all over the country, and this house may have been a merchant related to these products. This large Machiya in the middle of the old town is a remnant of that time. The interior has also been restricted to modern renovations dating back to the good old days (prewar), making this property ideal for those who wish to live and renovate in an old-fashioned way. From here, it takes about 1 hour drive to Kobe city, and 2 hours drive to downtown Osaka.
