Aburaden Kominka
Kanuma City, Tochigi Prf.
Kanuma City, about a 1.5 hour drive from downtown Tokyo, is also the entrance to Nikko, a famous summer resort and home to the glittering Toshogu Shrine, the mausoleum of the Edo Shogun. This Kominka built in the Edo era, which boasts the grandeur of its storehouse and main house, is located on the foothill plain of Kanuma City. The Nakajima family, the founders and owners of the Kominka, were the local family that served as the Nanushi (Gentry) of this Aburaden town for generations in the pre-modern era. The property is impressive for its grand Nagaya-mon gate and Kura. The overwhelming presence of these buildings, which attract the eye even from a distance, conveys the wealth and authority of the Northern Kanto region's great families.
All buildings are in poor condition and need substantial repair. It is possible to demolish some buildings that are in extremely poor condition.
