Sonogaya Kominka
Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Pref.
This is an unique and charming Kominka with short beams on the roof. It is a style common in this region and is thought to have originally been used for thatching, and similar structures can be seen in medieval temples. The main house itself has many rooms and the site is spacious, making it easy to use. On both sides of the main house, there are added storage buildings. The road in front of the house is the old Tōkaidō, Japan’s largest pre-modern main road. Kakegawa City, where the property is located, is known for its tea production and is conveniently located close to the sea and mountains. It takes an hour and a half to get to Tokyo by Shinkansen from the nearest JR Kakegawa Station.
