Nakazai-ji Kominka
Hino Town, Shiga Pref.
Hino Town, Shiga Prefecture, is located in a hilly area behind the eastern shore of Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan. The area is particularly famous for the Hino merchants who thrived during Japan's Edo period. This prestigious Kominka, which stands comfortably on a large plot of land, is located in the north part of the town. Situated within an old village settlement, the surrounding area boasts expansive farmland and hills, providing a serene environment. The area near the entrance was used as a clinic and still retains the appearance of a pre-war pseudo-Western-style building. The rest of the house consists of traditional Tatami rooms, and its architectural style suggests that it may include older structures than its construction age indicates. It takes 40 minutes drive to reach JR Maibara Station, the nearest Shinkansen station, and about a 2 hours drive to Kansai International Airport.
