Yamanaka-dani Kominka
Hannan City, Osaka Pref.
The Kumano Kaido (Kii Road) that connects Osaka and Wakayama (Kii) is a world-famous old road that has been used since ancient times as a pilgrimage and logistics route that connects to the World Heritage Kumano Kodo. This Kominka, characterized by its intricate tiled roof, is located just north of where the road crosses the mountain that separates the two prefectures. This area was once a post town with special stone paving in front of the house. The main house is thought to have been built before the 19th century based on its style, and the unique appearance of the upper roof facing the gable suggests that the house is unique to the region. It is only about 30 minutes to Kansai International Airport by train or car.
