Mukoucho Kominka

Here is a rare and noble Kominka located in the town of Takahashi, an ancient strategic point in the inland region of Okayama Prefecture. This house was the residence of a vassal who served the lord that ruled the area in the pre-modern era. Although the age of the house is unknown, it is a genuine “samurai house” where the descendants of middle-class samurai have lived for generations. The Sugi family has also produced naval admirals in modern times. Although the buildings need extensive repair and cooperation in preserving the townscape is required, it is a property with historical value that deserves to be preserved and utilized.
