Shimizu-dani Minka
Takatori Town, Nara Pref.
This is a Minka located in Shimizudani village, on the approach to the famous ancient temple, Tsubosaka-dera, famous for its cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, and stone statues. The low roof, underfloor vents, and original layout suggest that it may be an old Machiya unique to Nara, or that it was relocated to this location. Both the inside and outside of the house have been renovated to make use of the traditional style, and the attached fixtures and lighting have been carefully selected to match them and enhance the atmosphere. Although it is in a populated residential area, the front yard is spacious, and a river flows behind the house. There are many sights to see in the surrounding area, such as Asuka, a treasure trove of ancient ruins, and Yoshino, a famous cherry blossom spot. It is just over an hour by train to the center of Nara and Osaka, and just over an hour by car to Kansai International Airport.
