Kowake Machiya
Maizuru City, Kyoto Pref.
Maizuru Bay is located in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture. It is a rare coastal area in Japan that resembles a Scandinavian inlet, and is located at the far end of Wakasa Bay facing the Sea of Japan. This traditional Machiya with elegant monotone tiles is located in Nishi-Maizuru, at the left end of such Maizuru Bay. The building appears to be have been built before the 1940s, but it has been moderately remodeled. In addition, there are major train stations, schools, and stores within walking distance, as well as many places of interest such as Tanabe Castle and the atmospheric Yoshihara fishing town, known as the Venice of Japan, which provides a rich historical and cultural atmosphere. From here, downtown Kyoto city is only an hour and a half away by car or train.
