Hotaino Kominka
Kyotango City, Kyoto Pref.
This is a traditional Kominka with a distinctive architectural style characteristic of the Japan Sea region, featuring many exposed beams and pillars. Similar to the Kominka in the Hokuriku region, it is designed to withstand heavy snowfall. However, unlike those in Hokuriku, it has a less massive appearance and instead exhibits the delicate aesthetics typical of northern Kyoto. The house retains a traditional layout with four consecutive tatami rooms to the left of the entrance while incorporating modern renovations, including a newly installed dining area and kitchen. It also features rooms repurposed from the second-floor sericulture space, which was popular before World War II. By car, it takes about 15 minutes to reach the nearest station, Kabutoyama Station, and around 30 minutes to reach Toyooka Station, which offers direct train access to Kyoto station.
