Main House and others

The main house was renovated after the war to improve its convenience by adding a Western-style room and updating the bathroom, but the grandeur of a large, stately Kominka is still preserved everywhere and will not disappoint. In addition to the main house, there are many separate buildings such as a detached house and a storehouse, so you will have no trouble with storage or work space.

The unusual place name "Yamagata Iwa" is a modern compound name, originally a place called Iwa Mura (Mura = Village). It is said that the old county name "Yamagata" was added to avoid confusion with a village of the same name in a neighboring county. Therefore, there is no direct relationship with Yamagata City to the north, which also takes its name from an old county.

Why KORYOYA houses?

The traditional Japanese houses listed on KORYOYA are all built before 1950 with the traditional construction method.

The traditional method is the result of more than a thousand years of past carpenters passing down their efforts and wisdoms. As no new houses can be built with the traditional construction method under current law, the high craftsmanship is in danger of becoming a dying art.
